Gender in the UK - Girls in a Girls' School

Susan Higgins, headteacher at Parliament Hill girls school, believes that while the past decade has focussed the gender debate on boys, there is still work to be done on girls' achievement.

Although girls from families with high aspirations may be doing well, there is a need to address the culture of low aspiration in other groups. Parliament Hill's intake includes students from a ward with some of the highest national incidences of domestic violence.

This programme looks at the effectiveness of confident teaching in a single-sex setting, and demonstrates how the school tackles the issues facing their ambition to promote achievement amongst all its girls.
